Birthday Party Idea

My daughter's 12th Birthday Party

birthday party girls decorations cake lollipops glitter and paper decorThis was a colorful birthday party that I planned for my daughter.  We wanted to make it vibrant and fun.  I made lollipops out of Styrofoam using glitter for the swirl.  I covered them in cellophane and added homemade paper balls for the center pieces on the table.  I took small flower pots and made topiary trees using tulle because I wanted to see color on the table.  I had a beautiful cake made with a rainbow on the inside.  This party was for about 20 girls.  They had a good time dancing with a DJ.  When it was time to thank our guests I took regular thank you cards and embellished them with rhinestones.

I hope this inspires you while planning your next big party!

Party Favor Boxes

Chinese Takeout boxes as party favors

cute party birthday special event gift favors for weddings, baby showers, partiesChinese takeout boxes work great not only for food, but also make great party favors.  I made these as party favors for a school function.  For the polka dots I used paper with adhesive backing and a circle cutter.  I then applied the polka dots to each box.  I made the tags using a business card format on word.  I used a thick curly ribbon to add a pop of color to the box.  We filled these boxes with candy and they were a big hit at the party.

There are so many fun ways to decorate these Chinese takeout boxes.  I hope you'll try it out at your next party!

Teen Bedroom Makeover Idea

Simple Bedroom Makeovers

Girls Bedroom Accent Wall

remodel decorating a teen girls bedroom makeover weekend project stripes paint ideas
Here is another great idea for a girls bedroom makeover.  The colors I chose for this room were gray and cream with accents of pink and black.  Rather than paint the entire room with stripes, I decided to do one accent wall.  Again, I measured the wall to figure out how many stripes would fit evenly  to make the stripe pattern every other.  I made my stripes 6 inches each.  For the stripes, I chose light grey and cream.  I didn't want the room to be too dark and I love the way it turned out.

I wanted to give the room a glamorous feel.  For the bed I used a white comforter and used a silver sequin throw over it.  We added fur and sequin pillows.  To tie in the pink color I added a fuchsia chair, a pink sequin pillow, and a chandelier with pink crystals.  She wanted a vanity, so I found an inexpensive table and spray painted it with a thick coat of silver glitter spray paint.  We kept the existing furniture but added new accessories like the silver curtains with rhinestones and the white flower lamps with sequin embellishments.

We loved the way it turned out.  Have fun creating your own fabulous space!

Simple Fondant cake Idea For Kids and Beginners

Fondant Cake

This is a great project for beginners.  My 13 year old daughter made this cake.  She wanted to try working with fondant.  We have seen so many fondant cakes and they always look so flawless and smooth.  I thought it would be difficult to achieve the look, but surprisingly it was very simple.

For the cake base she made a vanilla cake with a tie-dye pattern.  To achieve the tie-dye pattern she separated the cake batter into 4 bowls.  The colors she chose were green, pink, blue, and purple.  She added food coloring to each bowl of batter until she reached the desired color.  To achieve the tie-dye color in the pan she poured each color one fourth a cup at a time into the cake pan starting in the middle until she had used all the cake batter.

After the cake had been baked she covered it in a thin layer of vanilla frosting and began working on the fondant. You can purchase pre-made fondant online or even at your local Michaels craft store.  After removing the fondant from the package you must roll it out until it is big enough to cover the entire cake's surface.  Once the fondant has been rolled out place it over the top of the cake, smooth out any bumps, and cut the excess fondant off at the bottom.

For the decorations on the cake we used our extra fondant, cookie cutters, food dye, wooden skewers, and water.  To dye the fondant just add a few drops of food coloring and mix it in with your hands.  After dying the fondant roll it out into a thin layer and use the cookie cutter to cut the shapes you would like to put on your cake.  My daughter used the a small star, large star, and small circle cookie cutters.  To apply the polka dots to the cake, she rubbed a small amount of water on the bottom and placed it on the desired spot on he cake.  To color the wooden skewers she used food coloring.  When she attached the stars to the skewers she used a small amount of water to make it stick and then put them in the fridge to harden.

This cake was so fun and easy to make. I was excited to share it with you.  Have fun creating you own cake!

A Simple and Cute Cupcake Idea

Simple and Fun cupcakes

We've all seen these adorable cupcakes on the internet, so I decided to try my own version and give you a few tips. This idea does not require too many baking skills.  You can even use store bought cupcakes and add the topping.  Personally I like homemade cupcakes best.   This is a cute and fun idea that everyone will love.  Bake your favorite cupcake and make your favorite homemade frosting.  You can choose any flavor.  The cupcakes I chose were vanilla cupcakes with vanilla buttercream frosting.

Once you have your cupcakes you will need Reese's Peanut Butter Cups Miniatures, frosting, and sprinkles.  From there you will just frost your peanut butter cups the same as your cupcakes, and add a few sprinkles.  The red ball on top was a sour cherry candy.

This is such a cute and easy cupcake idea I just had to share it.  Have fun creating some beautiful cupcakes!

Quick Bedroom Makeover Ideas

Weekend Makeover

This was a simple bedroom makeover that can be completed in a weekend.  I started with a pink room that had a cream bead board along the bottom.  The colors I chose for this room were Tiffany blue, black, and cream.  I started by measuring all the walls to figure out how many stripes would fit evenly on the walls to make the stripe pattern every other.  I made the stripes 6 inches each.  To make sure the stripes were straight I used a strait-line laser level as guide when taping my stripes.

This was a quick and inexpensive project.  I kept the existing furniture but added new décor to give the room a new look.  I added new black curtains and a black and cream chair.  I also added an antique black table to tie all the colors together.  New bedding and pillows were essential for the room's new look.  I chose accessories in the same colors.  The telephone in the corner was a cute addition and a nice pop of color.

Small projects like these are fun and inexpensive.  Have fun creating your own beautiful space!
